Place Items on the Highway
All activities on the highway are controlled by licence from the Highways Group. Such activities include the placing of items on the highway including skips, scaffolding, hoardings, builder’s materials, tables and chairs. A licence is also required for private works (other than public utility) involving excavations of a road or footway.
Please note that this licence is usually granted only to approved skip/scaffolding companies and/or building contractors. This is due to the primary requirement for £10 million public liability insurance, which is required by the Highway Authority in order to place items on the highway.
