Smarter Travel Choices
If you travel to work by car every day, for example, you are having to foot the bill for the cost of your car, road tax and petrol - why not register with the Car Share Scheme and take a couple of passengers to contribute to the cost of running your car? Not only will you be saving money, you will be helping to ease traffic congestion and aiding the environment. If you are a passenger, imagine having all the convenience of a motor car journey to work for only a fraction of the cost? Car Sharing is a smart travel choice.
Alternatively, if you take the kids to school every morning why not get together with some of the other parents and organise a car pool, taking it in turns to do the school run so you only have to do it once a week instead of every day? Another smart choice.
The Eastbourne Travel section offers you a full range of information about public transport, with links to bus and rail operators, to help you plan your own unique daily travel. You can also find out about the concessionary bus fare scheme, with the Sussex Countycard.
If you do travel by car, take a look at our lists of all parking areas in Eastbourne, showing the number of spaces (including disabled) and the fees for those spaces where you have to pay. Residents of Eastbourne can also find out how to obtain a parking permit.
You can calculate how each of your journeys affect the environment, your health and your pocket, using the interactive Travel Impact Calculator - a new website developed by East Sussex County Council. The Car Cost Calculator shows people the real annual cost of owning and running a private car. The Calorie Calculator works out the number of calories burned off by walking or cycling - and what that equates to in terms of chocolate, crisps, beer or wine.
A good way to help the environment and keep healthy too is to enjoy Eastbourne's downland walks.
People with disabilities can use the menu on the right to visit our Access For All section, which includes guides, maps, information on parking and toilets, plus details of the Access For All South Downs Trail.
Visiting Eastbourne from further afield will be made much easier by referring to our Getting to Eastbourne page. Visitors or local residents who wish to attend one of the Eastbourne Borough Council offices can find out our address with a link to a map.
Finally, Eastbourne Borough Council has engaged in extensive discussion and consultation with a wide range of transport users and providers to create the Eastbourne Urban Area Local Transport Plan (EUALTP).
