Chewing Gum

Before Chewing Gum Removal

Every year over 560,000 tonnes of gum is produced.

When chewing gum is dropped on the ground or stuck to walls and signs, it more often than not stays there creating a messy eyesore.

Chewing gum, unlike other items of litter is not washed away by the rain or blown away by the wind, instead it becomes ingrained in the surface to which it has been stuck.

Hot pressurised water is sprayed onto the pavement to remove chewing gum.

This minimises the environmental impact by not using chemicals. This is a very expensive process so please try to help keep Eastbourne clean by disposing of your chewing gum and litter in bins provided and not on the ground.
