The summer league 2009 has finally come to an end with a very tight table found at least 10 teams fighting for their positions to sustain a place in the summer league cup. It was in fact Hospital Social Club who won the league by 2 clear points with 63 points.
Top striker Ricki Prodger found him breaking his own and Hampden Park's goal record as he smashed 63 goals in one season beating his 50 goals scored in the previous summer of 2008. Social Club also made 12 consecutive wins in a row as well as them making 10 clean sheets throughout the season.
Gurr Ceramic Tiling made two slip up's in their campaign which forced them to a runners up spot after failing to beat winners Social Club and drawing to Kewell & the Gang in week 11 assured Hospital the Summer triumph, though Gurr lead the way throughout the league and hit the best win of 11-0 against the Bourne Bravehearts in week 3 really battled hard for their place in the league. !
When it comes to scoring goals Social Club's Ricki Prodger seems untouchable after winning his sixth top goal scorer award in consecutive seasons when he finished the season with 63 goals, 36 goals ahead of his brother Lee Prodger from Fellas Barbers who still hit an amazing 27 goals.
Ricki Prodger also awarded the player of the season trophy as his unstoppable dominance in this season's league was what won it for Hospital and well deserved for his efforts. Ricki also managed 15 outstanding hat-tricks within his 63 goals scored throughout the duration of the league which is his highest amount he's ever hit and the centre's ever seen.
The League Cup also went Hospital Social Club's way as they knocked out league runner's up Gurr Tiling in the first round 4-1. Hospital then beat Balls of Steel in the semi-finals and Fellas Barbers in the final 6-2 with thanks mostly to goals from Ricki prodger and Richard Piper.
