The History Of The Cup

The first Summer Challenge Cup was held over three consecutive Tuesday nights back in 2005. League side Alexandra Hotel eventually come out on top beating Wall of Fame in the final to become the first ever winners of the tournament.

2006 saw a big change when the cup went to a one day tournament that proved to be a big improvement. HT White became the first team to win the league, league cup and the Summer Challenge Cup all in one year when they beat Spice in the final.

Sunday league side (11-a-side) Jolly Boatman became the first non 5-a-side league team to win the tournament in 2007 in the closest tournament when they beat Hampen Park Squashers on penalties in the final.

2008 saw a slightly changed format due to lack of teams with 12 sides in two groups of six. Hospital Social Club become the first side to win the Summer League, Summer League Cup and Summer Challenge Cup all within the space of three months to become one of the all time greats when they beat Galacticos 2-0 in the final.

Summer Challenge Cup 2009 kicked off brightly with Hospital Social Club winning all games in a group league of 5 teams. Balls of Steel, Victoria Coaches, Real Valina and newbie's Bowny Town also entered for the ultimate annual trophy.

It was Hospital Social Club who ran out champs this year after an unbeaten run in the group phase saw them outclass Balls of Steel 4-1, Bowny Town 3-1, Real Valina 2-1 and Victoria Coaches 3-0. Ricki Prodger Hampden Park Sport Centre's top goal scorer, Sam Connor and Kyle Feneron all firing home goals for Social Club's run of games.
