Promenades and Parades Maintenance

A view of Eastbourne seafront and bathing huts

The council is responsible for the maintenance of the seafront parades and promenades that run from Holywell through to Langney Point.

We inspect the parades and promenades regularly to identify defects and problems.  We inspect monthly from April 1 to September 30 and every six weeks over the remainder of the year.  Inspections include all parade surfaces, seafront shelters, steps, ramps, railings and signs.

We have a set of 'intervention standards' that describe the actions we will take for different sorts of defects. In addition to these defects, anything on the seafront that the inspector considers a potential hazard is also recorded.  An example of this would be debris on the beach.
