Parks and Gardens staff have recently been receiving telephone calls about yellow dusty grass.
The cause is a minute fungus that often affects grass at this time of year when its growth rate is low but the humidity in the grass is quite high particularly owing to morning dew. The leaves often develop yellow/orange patches and the yellow dust is the spores from the fungus. If the growth rate of the grass increases, or during cooler winter conditions, the rust naturally diminishes again.
The rust is harmless so we do not apply any kind of treatment. The current outbrake is probably the worst we have had for a few years.
Sponsored Roundabouts
Eastbourne has an enviable reputation for the quality of its urban environment. Parks and open spaces play an important part in this and even highway areas add to the beauty of the town.
For several years an environmental sponsorship scheme has been run for the benefit of interested organisations. The opportunity is currently available to sponsor the upkeep of some of the highway roundabouts in the Borough and raise the profile of the sponsor in a very positive way amongst the local community.
Costs vary according to the prominence of the site and the costs of upkeep. The sponsor has the privilege of exclusive on-site acknowledgement for an agreed period and the chance that literally tens of thousands of people will see their name.
