Summer bedding at the Carpet Gardens remained in full flower through into mid-October.
The unusual spell of warm weather experienced from the end of September extended the display period by several weeks. Normally the flowers begin to deteriorate by the beginning of October.
By the end of October the plants were removed so that spring bedding could be planted. To leave this change any later risked poor establishment of the spring plants and a lower quality display in the new year.
Thanks to community involvement and donations from various quarters this autumn will see the planting of around 47,500 spring bulbs in parks and along roadsides.
Community volunteers will be out in force whilst others will be planted by council contractors. Numbers ar made up of daffodils, crocuses and bluebells.
Now through until about mid-November is the ideal time to plant displays of colourful daffodils, crocuses and tulips ready for the spring.
