Work on the Decoy Pond at Hampden Park is fast reaching its conclusion.
Along the dam the new spillway is being finished with bridge decking shortly enabling the footpath to reopen.
In the pond a new island has been constructed to create a further wildlife haven. Silt from the lake bed has been used to construct this.

New bike racks at three main parks
Whilst many visitors to our parks arrive by car or bus there are now cycle racks at Gildredge, Hampden and Princes Parks. Although limited in number more may be installed if there is sufficient demand.
The racks consist of corrosion resistant stainless steel hoops set within purpose made tarmac pads. Any standard security cable or steel loop-type locks can be used to safely fasten your bike to the racks. They are free to use on a first come first served basis.
The locations are:
- Gildredge Park near the tennis and bowls clubs
- Hampden Park on the corner of the lawn more or less opposite the cafe
- Princes Park right by the entrance arch on the corner of Royal Parade and Channel View Road
All change at the Carpet Gardens
The spring bedding gave a fantastic display this year but the time has come for the summer displays to be planted.
The gardeners from council contractors The Landscape Group will be removing the spring bedding in the run in to the May Bank Holiday before replanting straight away with summer varieties.
In early June a special commemorative bed will be planted at the west end of the Carpet Gardens.
