The magnificent entrance arch erected in early 2007 at Princes Park has been joined by new finials on the tops of the two outer gate piers. The project was a collaborative scheme involving Parks staff and The Friends of Princes Park who chose from several designs. The Friends also helped fund the work that was carried out by local firm Cavendish Ironworks.
The arch is a copy of the original but the finials that originally existed had disappeared long ago and no historical information was available despite an appeal to the public. The design chosen matches the detail of the central arch and visually completes the gateway.
Sponsor This Roundabout
For several years Eastbourne has run a very successful environmental sponsorship scheme through the Parks and Gardens Section working with Keegan Ford Sponsorship. Currently several prime highway locations are available that can highlight suitable company names 24 hours a day 365 days a year to the passing public.
Through sponsorship an exclusive licence is agreed with the sponsor to have their name acknowledged on site for a minimum three year period. During that time the landscaping and grassed areas are maintained to a high standard by the Borough's landscape contractor and on some sites further enhancements are sometimes possible.
Sites are limited and are normally licenced on a first come first served basis.
TEVA UK Roundabout summer makeover
The roundabout at the junction of Lottbridge Drove and Marshall Road, sponsored by TEVA UK, has just been given its seasonal makeover. TEVA UK have sponsored the site for the past three years and the bold modern scheme has proved popular with the public.
Around two thousand purple Cape Daisies (Osteospermum) have been planted in the large crescent bed underlying a row of palm-like Cordylines. Smaller beds contains yellow lilies, white daisies and lavender. Further work will shortly be done to replace a couple of sick palms with new plants.
Flower towers brighten town centre
Ten large flower towers have arrived to help give the town centre summer colour. The towers are all sponsored by generous local companies helping to make Eastbourne more attractive during the summer months.
The plant is a variety of Pelargonium peltatum (Geranium) and sends out long climbing stems with bright red flowers. The displays are watered once a week and deadheaded if required. They should be in place until early October.
