Winning children from Saint John's School, Meads

The Mayor, Councillor Carolyn Heaps, met with winners of the Airbourne in Bloom garden design competition. The children from Saint John's Meads Church of England School received various prizes and will see their design planted out at the west end of the seafront during June.

Judges had a difficult but enjoyable time speaking with teams of children from the schools that entered designs at the Town Hall on 18th March. The competition is run by the Eastbourne Education Business Partnership and supported by Eastbourne Parks and Gardens.

Final arrangements are now being made in preparation for restoration and enhancement of the Decoy Pond at Hampden Park. The work aims to address concerns about poor water quality and to improve the surrounding habitat.

The work is being jointly funded with money from Eastbourne Borough Council and further cash secured by The Friends of The Hampden Park through The Big Lottery.

The contractors, OHES Environmental, plan to be on site from Monday 4th April. Allowing for unpredictable weather conditions and nesting birds the project should be completed in about 6 weeks.

Information will be available on site in Hampden Park and on a dedicated 'Decoy Pond' page within the 'Parks' pages on this website. This will be regularly updated throughout the project.
