Princes Park new arch

On Saturday 24th February The Mayor of Eastbourne, Councillor Colin Belsey, formally opened the new entrance arch leading into Princes Park from the corner of Channel View Road.

A large crowd attended including MP Nigel Waterson, local ward councillors and many local residents.  Jackie Mullander, Chairman of the Friends of Princes Park, gave a short speech before handing over to the Mayor to cut the ribbon.  The Friends of Princes Park have donated three quarters of the funds required for the project.

The old arch was badly corroded and removed for safety reasons.  Local residents expressed their pleasure at having the Park's name back on display once again.

Survival of the Fittest

During the February half term holiday the County Council Ranger at Shinewater Park put on several children's activity days with the emphasis on bushcraft.

Projects included finding out about what our prehistoric ancestors ate and the skills required to obtain and prepare the food.  One day was also devoted to erecting a tent shelter, flint knapping and making flint arrows.

Shinewater Park contains an important area of Bronze Age archaeology so the activities aimed to bring this period of history alive in an exciting way.
