Despite plant-vandalising seagulls and abysmal summer weather the Carpet Gardens still formed the highlight of Eastbourne's wonderful Victorian seafront. Sadly, as the days shorten and nights become chilly, the displays will near their end for this year.
Thanks to sponsorship from Coast Magazine and Wyevale Grounds Maintenance there were two special badge beds all summer at the west end of the main garden. These will only be in place for a few more weeks.
Before long all of the summer bedding will be removed to be replaced by plants that will brighten the seafront during next spring. The new displays will include tulips, pansies and wallflowers.
Princes Park Fun Day
The sun shone and crowds turned out to support the Friends of Princes Park Fun Day on 23rd August.
Local band, Skiddle-am-bam, provided live music and other entertainment included numerous stalls, a climbing wall, a bowling competition, a raffle and Punch and Judy show. Polegate Model Engineers Club set up tracks and ran miniature steam trains.
The successful event has raised money towards the purchase of new seats for the Park.
Mayor thanks sponsors
The Mayor met the sponsors of Eastbourne's highway roundabouts and town centre flower towers on 28th August. The event was organised as a thank you to all of the local businesses and individuals who have helped support the cost of landscaping and floral displays this summer. Press coverage followed the photo shoot.
Ten flower towers have graced Victoria Place and Seaside Road throughout the summer. Sponsorship is being sought to support the scheme again next year.
On the highways Eastbourne is lucky to have so many generous sponsors who have helped us maintain and enhance the landscaping of most of our roundabouts. With the current economic climate generating caution in the commercial world the minimum sponsorship period has recently been reduced from three years to one year for new sponsors.
All sponsored features display the name of the company or individual supporting the scheme. Anyone interested in sponsoring gardens or floral displays should contact Parks and Gardens or simply follow the link from this page to find out more.
