Hankham, Bourne and Willingdon Primary Schools met at the Town Hall on Friday 20th March for the finals of Seaside in Bloom.
Each school produced displays that included cross-curricular work as well as a garden design for a 3.8 metre diameter flower bed at Holywell.
The judges, headed by the Mayor, met pupils to talk about their work which was presented as readings, pictures and laptop presentations. After much deliberation Hankham Primary School were declared the winners for 2009.
Victorious Hankham School will see their winning design converted into a planted flower bed at Holywell in June. They and the runners up also received a selection of seaside-themed books for their school libraries.
The competition was organised this year by Eastbourne Parks and Gardens Staff. Thanks go to Eastbourne Education Business Partnership and Wyevale Grounds Maintenance Limited for their support. Sponsorship for prizes was generously given by Saint Andrew's School, Meads.
