Local schools met at the Congress Restaurant on 16th March for the finals of Olympic in Bloom.
Each school produced displays that included cross-curricular work as well as a garden design for a 3.8 metre diameter flower bed at Holywell.
The judges, headed by the Mayor, met pupils to talk about their work which was presented as text, pictures, models and laptop presentations. After much deliberation Tollgate Community Junior School were declared the winners for 2012.
Victorious Tollgate School met the Mayor, Councillor Mike Thompson, to see their design planted at Holywell on 18th June. The main element of the design represents the Olympic torch. They and the runners up also received a selection of prizes.
The competition was organised by Eastbourne Education Business Partnership and supported by Eastbourne Borough Council's Parks and Gardens staff.
