Familiar Visions Eric and James Ravilious: Father and Son
3 July - 5 September
£5.50 / £4 concessions / under 16s free
Though Eric Ravilious died at war only a few years after his son James was born, parallels can be seen between the artistic practice of father and son. For Towner’s summer exhibition, the work of Eric Ravilious is shown alongside that of his son James for the very first time.
Familiar Visions showcases Eric Ravilious’s Sussex landscape paintings alongside James’s photographs of rural Devon, revealing a deep-seated love of the land inherent to both.
Towner has long been associated with Eric Ravilious and is renowned for holding what is thought to be the largest single collection of his work. The exhibition includes major loans and little seen works from private collections, as well as key works from the Towner Collection.
