Gas Appliances and Flues - Carbon Monoxide Poisoning
Carbon monoxide is the silent killer - you cannot see it, taste it or smell it but it can kill without warning in just a matter of hours.
Carbon monoxide poisoning is caused by gas appliances and flues which have not been properly installed or maintained, or where a flue or chimney has become blocked.
Gas Safe Register - Get Your Gas Appliances Checked Each Year
It is essential for your safety that all gas appliances are fully checked and serviced at least once a year, to avoid the danger of carbon monoxide poisoning.
This must be done by a qualified contractor registered with Gas Safe. You can find a Gas Safe registered business online - go to the Gas Safe Register website, or you can call 0800 408 5500.
Only allow an engineer to work on your gas appliances after you have checked their Gas Safe Register ID card.
From 1 April 2009 the Gas Safe Register scheme has replaced the previous CORGI registration scheme, which is no longer valid.
Remember that illegal gas workers put your life at risk - watch the Gas and Cowboys Don’t Mix TV advert online.
