Take a second look for Safety

Child Safety Week is for anyone working with families or children and this year the week runs annually in the last week of June.

Accidents remain one of the biggest killers of children in the UK, second only to cancer. Serious accidents not only cause physical injury that can take months or even years to heal but the psychological impact on the child, their family and friends can last a lifetime.

Many accidents can be prevented simply by taking a second look to make sure that hot drink is safely out of reach of small hands, the safety gate on the stairs is closed properly, your route to safety is clear in the event of a fire or by taking a second glance at the speedometer.

About Child Safety Week

The emphasis of the week is on empowering families to take action rather than on telling them what to do or lecturing them about what they are doing wrong.

Accident prevention is not about restricting children or wrapping them up in cotton wool. Instead it is about creating safer environments where children can be active and thrive.

Child Safety Week provides an opportunity to get this message across to parents and children in a fun and engaging way and help parents learn how to fit safety into their busy lives.
