Child Safety Equipment Scheme
The Child Safety Equipment Scheme was set up in December 1994 and is run by Eastbourne Borough Council in partnership with Eastbourne Downs NHS Primary Care Trust.
The aim of the scheme is to prevent and reduce accidents in the under five year olds in Eastbourne.
Child Safety Equipment is provided to families in the borough of Eastbourne on low incomes with at least one child under five years old. Health Visitors identify qualifying families and pass referral forms to the council, who issue the equipment.
Equipment may include stair gates, fireguards, cupboard locks, window locks and power socket covers, to help prevent accidents from falls and from electrical and other hazards around the house.
To apply for equipment, you should contact your NHS Health Visitor in the first instance, not the council.
For practical advice and information leaflets about all aspects of child safety in your home, go to the Child Accident Prevention Trust website or NHS Direct under Other Websites.
If you do not qualify for assistance with safety equipment, you can get advice on the right equipment to buy in a free factsheet from the Child Accident Prevention Trust.
