Eastbourne Care and Repair, the local independent Home Improvement Agency, can help older or disabled people in Eastbourne apply for Private Housing Assistance from Eastbourne Borough Council.
Small Works Scheme
This scheme will assist vulnerable households to maintain their homes. Works can include adaptations, repairs or other works to enable people to remain living in their own home.
It is available to those over 60 with savings of less than £3,000.
The maximum grant is £500 and the scheme is administered by Eastbourne Care and Repair. It is jointly funded by East Sussex County Council, Eastbourne Borough Council and Care and Repair.
Emergency Heating and Hot Water Repair Scheme
There is a national Eaga scheme to provide a grant for boiler repairs but the scheme cannot respond to emergency situations. This can leave older and disabled people at risk of illness and even admission to hospital.
Eastbourne Care and Repair and the council are therefore jointly funding a scheme to assist with emergency boiler repairs and replacement of heating systems for a limited number of vulnerable people.
The aim of this scheme is to provide immediate repair to heating or hot water systems.
As well as alleviating health problems this scheme will also reduce the number of homes occupied by vulnerable householders in the private sector that fail the Decent Homes Standard.
Care and Repair may also find match funding from Benevolence Funds and other sources on a case-by-case basis.
The scheme is aimed at people with savings of less than £5,000 who are aged over 70 or between 60 and 69 with a long-term health problem or disability. The maximum grant is £1,000 per client.
