Disabled Facilities Grants Booklet

Advice and booklet to download about Disabled Facilities Grants (DFGs), to assist disabled people in Eastbourne to enable them to live as independently as possible.

We work closely with East Sussex County Council (ESCC) Social Services on the allocation of these grants.

The grants are means tested and are allocated for work that we (Eastbourne Borough Council and ESCC) deem necessary, appropriate, reasonable and practicable.

What are Grants Available for?

Disabled Facilities Grants are available for:

  • Making access to and from the house easier

  • Making access easier to bedroom, bathroom, living room and kitchen

  • Making it easier for the disabled to use the toilet, bath or shower

  • Improving or providing a suitable heating system to meet the needs of the disabled person

  • To enable the disabled person to control light, power and heating

  • Providing access around the home to enable the disabled person to care for another member of the household in need of care

  • Making the building safe for the disabled person and other occupants

Funding is available for those adaptations costing more than £1,000 and less than £30,000.
