Homeshare

Inside someone's home
Inside someone's home

Homeshare is a scheme which supports people to help each other out by matching people who need help at home with those who need somewhere to live and can help in return.

Someone who has a room but needs help with everyday living can provide accommodation for a person who needs somewhere to live but might not be able to afford it. The help can be anything up to ten hours a week and include things like cooking and cleaning.

Homeshare can help people who own a home such as:

  • older people who need low level support or are anxious or lonely
  • disabled people who need support to live independently
  • family carers who are struggling with isolation or who juggle work and caring.

It can also benefit people who need affordable housing such as:

  • students and key public service workers on low incomes
  • people who are saving towards the cost of a house or have debt problems
  • people waiting to be rehoused into Council or other social housing.
