Energy Efficiency Labels on Products

EU Energy Appliance Label

EU energy labels on appliances and products show estimated fuel consumption and an energy grading from A to G, with A being the most efficient.

An A-rated appliance will use approximately half as much electricity as a G-rated appliance.

Energy Saving Recommended Products

The Energy Saving Trust manages a labelling scheme for products with proven energy efficiency. These products carry the Energy Saving Recommended logo.

Currently endorsed products can be found on the Energy Saving Trust website.

Remember...

  • When you buy a new fridge, freezer, washing machine, tumble dryer or dishwasher look out for the EU energy label on the front of the appliance.

  • The label shows the energy efficiency of the appliance.

  • A is the most energy efficient and G is the least efficient.

  • An item with a higher energy rating may be a little more expensive but over the lifetime of the appliance the savings you make by using less energy will be more than this extra cost.

  • When purchasing a fridge or freezer, consider choosing one that is free of CFCs and HCFCs as they destroy the ozone layer and contribute to global warming.
