Vulnerable Tenants

Reasons we may decide to pay your Local Housing Allowance (LHA) to you landlord instead of you might be because your current situation makes it:

  • difficult for you to manage your own affairs or
  • difficult for you to receive direct payments of LHA

Examples of Vulnerability

Examples of when you might be considered vulnerable could be if:

  • you have a medical condition (affecting your mental or physical health)
  • you have a learning disabilty or physical disability
  • you do not speak English as your first language
  • you are going through some changes that mean that you need some extra support
  • you are dealing with an addiction (alcohol, drugs or gambling)
  • you have severe debt problems, for example, County Court Judgements (CCJs), bankruptcy, or a bad credit rating preventing you from opening a bank or building society current account that accepts direct payments via BACS payments.

If you feel you meet these or similar circumstances you will need to write to us and provide any relevant supporting information or proof to support your application.
