Safeguard Policy
We aim to:
promote a transparent and simple process that is widely understood
to treat each case individually
to not make assumptions about people's situations
Exceptions - Paying Your Landlord Instead of You
We can use our discretion to make payments of Local Housing Allowance direct to a landlord if:
- we consider that you are unlikely to pay your rent
- we think that you cannot handle your own affairs
- you are more than eight weeks in arrears with your rent
When are Payments to Landlords Made?
Payments to Landlords or Letting Agents can only be made four-weekly in arrears. We are not able to pay landlords fortnightly.
Power of Attorney
If someone else looks after your money for you or there is a power of attorney, payment can be made to the person who looks after your money or the person with the power of attorney.
Full guidance on Local Housing Allowance safeguards will be available shortly.
