Choosing Fairtrade Products

Fairtrade Eastbourne
Find out what you can do to make Eastbourne a Fairtrade Town, on the Fairtrade Eastbourne website...

You can buy Fairtrade food, drinks and more. The Fairtrade Mark is an independent consumer label that appears on products (not specific brands) which guarantee that Third World producers are getting a better deal.

Supporting Fairtrade

The ethos behind Fairtrade is that producers in developing countries should receive a fair price for their produce, and not be exploited so that shoppers in the developed world can get goods for less.

Fairtrade products are usually ones which are grown or made in some of the poorest parts of the world.

You can choose Fairtrade tea, coffee, chocolate, bananas, sugar, wine, cotton and even footballs. A full list of Fairtrade products is available on the Fairtrade Foundation website, using the link from this page.

Fairtrade products are now sold in 22 countries across five continents. With recent switches to Fairtrade by everyday brands companies, Fairtrade is increasingly becoming part of how we shop and do business. Currently there are over 3000 products certified as Fairtrade.

Think Global, Act Local

Driving the movement and making international development a local issue are over 450 Fairtrade Towns (including cities, boroughs, counties, villages, islands and zones) in the UK and more than 700 across 18 countries worldwide.

Fairtrade Eastbourne

A Fairtrade Town is any community that:

  • Supports Fairtrade and deepens understanding of the benefits Fairtrade brings

  • Takes action by choosing Fairtrade products whenever possible and encourages others to do likewise

  • Achieves and continues to take action on the five Fairtrade Town goals set by the Fairtrade Foundation

Eastbourne Borough Council responded to local support for Fairtrade by passing a motion supporting Fairtrade in Eastbourne in 2007. The council continues to support Fairtrade and is committed to helping the town achieve Fairtrade Town Status, awarded by the Fairtrade Foundation.

Find out about the campaign and show your support on the Fairtrade Eastbourne website.
