The theme this year was cooking food thoroughly at home and avoiding cross-contamination.
This builds on the Food Standards Agency GermWatch publicity first launched in 2008, with new recipe cards and a quiz for 2010 which you can download below.
The week, which is organised by the FSA, particularly highlighted the most important actions associated with preventing campylobacter:
The theme of Food Safety Week supports the FSA Strategy 2010-2015, which identifies reducing foodborne illness, particularly tackling campylobacter in chicken, as a key priority.
Facts on Campylobacter
Campylobacter causes the greatest number of cases of foodborne illness in the UK each year.
There were about 55,000 reported cases of campylobacteriosis in the UK in 2008 but many more cases go unreported – the realistic number of cases is more likely to be closer to 375,000 each year. Campylobacter can be found in meat, unpasteurised milk and untreated water.
