National Food Hygiene Rating Scheme
Eating Out? Getting Food In?
The rating scheme makes it much easier to find out if a restaurant, takeaway or food shop has good food hygiene standards.
Check the ratings of restaurants you are visiting - use the links from this page to search online for ratings in Eastbourne or all the UK, download the app for Android, iPhone or Windows 8, or look in the window for a ratings sticker
If a restaurant, takeaway or food shop has a 0, 1 or 2 switch to one that has a higher rating
When looking for a restaurant choose one with a higher rating
The food hygiene rating given to a business reflects the standards of food hygiene found on the date of the last inspection by the council's Environmental Health Officers.
The food hygiene rating is not a guide to the quality of food.
What the Ratings Mean
The hygiene standards found at the time of inspection are rated on a scale. The top of the scale is ‘5’ - very good:
5 - very good
4 - good
3 - generally satisfactory
2 - improvement necessary
1 - major improvement necessary
0 - urgent improvement necessary
Businesses do not have to display the hygiene rating sticker or certificate, so if you see a business without a rating displayed, either use the mobile app or decide if you want to eat or buy food from there without knowing the hygiene standards:
