The people who work in Environmental Health at your local council try to make the place where you live better and help you and your family stay healthy.

Keeping Everyone Healthy and Safe

  • We help to make sure the food you eat has no nasty germs in it, so you do not get ill.

  • We make the places you visit safe so you do not get hurt.

  • We stop people smoking inside places you visit, so you do not get ill from breathing in their smoke.

  • We make sure grown-ups are safe in the places where they go to work.

  • We look after lost dogs, take them home or find them new homes.
  • We try to stop dogs pooping in the street.

  • We help to stop noisy people keeping you awake at night.

  • We make sure the air you breathe is clean.

  • We get rid of horrible rats, mice and creepy crawlies in your home.

  • We help to make people's houses better and safer to live in.

  • We help people to save energy, to help our climate and your future.

We work with lots of other people, like the Police, firefighters, social workers, nurses and doctors, to help you keep healthy and safe.

Kids Pages on our Website

From this page you will find links to our Kids Pages about dogs and animal welfare, the weather, climate change, food safety and healthy eating.

Our Kids Pages also have lots of links to other websites for children, with online games and fun activities for you to try out. Laugh and learn about food safety - listen to some funny songs and watch hilarious music videos. Our favourites are 'You better wash your hands' and 'I'm a veggie believer'.

On our Learn about Dogs pages you can meet Polar, the star of our school visits. You can read Polar’s top tips about dogs, watch her video and see her photo gallery slideshow. Get free downloads including a colourful poster and bookmark. Read the story of how Polar was rescued and adopted. View videos and picture galleries of drawings from local schools.
