Practical tips on personal safety for young people enjoying a night out at pubs and clubs in Eastbourne.

Stay Safe - Stay in Control

Look out for your friends and look after your health while enjoying pubbing and clubbing. Being safe is about being in control:

  • Why not have something to eat before you go out?

  • Try alternating alcohol with water - you will get less dehydrated.

  • Get home safely by using a licensed taxi.

  • If things get romantic - remember: no condom, no sex!

  • a pint of beer (ABV 4 per cent) contains two units of alcohol

  • a double gin and tonic contains two units

  • a pint of cider (ABV 5.3 per cent) contains three units

  • a 250ml glass of wine (ABV 12 per cent) contains three units

  • a pint of lager (ABV 5.2 per cent) contains three units

The NHS recommends that men should not regularly drink more than 3-4 units of alcohol daily and women should not regularly drink more than 2-3 units daily. Drinking more than this could add up to a serious health problem:

Top Tips to Stay Safe at Night

  • Pre-book a licensed taxi home

  • Find out the times of the last train and bus

  • Never walk home alone – stick with your mates

  • Carry a personal attack alarm

  • Walk in a well-lit area

  • Do not be flash with your cash

  • Keep your mobile and other valuables out of sight

  • Avoid any confrontations and walk away
