As well as providing meteorological information to the local community, Eastbourne Borough Council is a member of the UK Climatological Observing Network.

In order to develop a picture of national climate conditions, weather stations across the UK provide regular observations to a common high standard to professionals at the Met Office.

Without these co-operating stations, including Eastbourne Borough Council, it would be impossible to achieve a full picture representing the variations that exist across different parts of the country.

Met Office Weather Stations

The UK Climatological Network formally came into existence in 1884. Eastbourne joined this network in 1888, having already been in operation since 1867. For more about the early years of our station and the network, go to our History page.

The Climatological Observers Link was founded in 1970 by a small group of amateur meteorologists and is the enthusiasts' weather observer network for the United Kingdom.

MetLinkInternational is an educational weather observations project for schools organised by the Royal Meteorological Society. Participants around the world exchange observations using an online database.
