Until 2006 we recorded the sea temperature in Eastbourne every day by dipping a special thermometer into the sea at the end of the pier.

Eastbourne has been recording this information since 1892 and is by far the oldest station in the UK to do so.

Eastbourne is famous for its sunshine and the town holds the national record for maximum duration of sunshine in a month - 383.9 hours in July 1911.

Each day we record Eastbourne's sunshine by using a special instrument called a Campbell-Stokes Sunshine Recorder, located on the roof of the council offices at 1 Grove Road.
