Temperatures
The average temperature was indeed incredibly average at 10.4°C compared to the long term average of 10.49°C!
The highest temperature was 27°C on 9th July and the lowest was -7.5°C on 6th January. The highest and lowest recorded temperatures since records began in 1867 were 32.6°C (1990) and -12.7°C (1887).
The December average was significantly lower than average (2.3°C compared with 5.8°C) and the average minimum temperature for December was -0.5°C compared to a long term average of 3.5°C.
Rainfall and Sunshine
Overall 2010 was relatively drier than average with total annual rainfall 701 mm compared to long term average of 794mm.
The total annual sunshine was 1911 hours compared to a long term average of 1828 hours and April had 266 hours compared with a long term average of 181 hours; this was just short of the all time record of 274 hours in 1893. There were higher than average rain-days, 183 compared with long term average of 161.
Sea Temperature
The average annual sea temperature was 11.6°C compared to a long term average of 11.2°C.
Snow
Snow falling overnight on Wednesday 1 December 2010, continuing into Thursday 2nd was the heaviest snowfall in Eastbourne for around 50 years.
There has been nothing comparable to this exceptional weather in Eastbourne since the early 1960's. The years 1963 and 1965 saw very heavy snowfall.
