Temperatures
The average temperature for the year was 11.8°C compared to the long term average of 10.49°C so overall temperatures were warmer than the long term average. 2006 and 2007 were slightly warmer at 12.2°C and 12.1°C respectively and 12.2°C is the highest annual average in the last 60 years.
With the exception of January, monthly temperatures were generally warmer than the long term average. The highest temperature was 26.3°C on 6th August and the lowest was -4.5°C on 10th January. The highest and lowest recorded temperatures since records began in 1867 were 32.6°C (1990) and -12.7°C (1887).
Rainfall and Sunshine
Rainfall and sunshine hours were higher than average, the former due in large part to a record breaking 235mm for November. Total annual rainfall was 866mm compared to long term average of 794mm and total annual sunshine was 1979 hours compared to a long term average of 1828 hours. There were higher than average rain-days, 192 compared with long term average of 161.
Sea Temperature
The average annual sea temperature was 12.6°C compared to a long term average of 11.2° which can be attributed to higher than average temperatures in the Spring and Autumn.
