Temperatures

The average temperature for the year was 11.7°C compared to the long term average of 10.4°C so overall temperatures were warmer than the historical average. 2006 and 2007 were slightly warmer at 12.2°C and 12.1°C respectively and 12.2°C is the highest annual average in the last 60 years.

The temperatures in the winter/spring months were generally warmer and summer/autumn temperatures were generally about average compared to recent years.

Rainfall and Sunshine

Probably the best way to describe 2008’s rainfall and sunshine is average! The total annual rainfall was 761mm compared to a long term average of 794mm and the total annual sunshine was 1823 hours compared to a long term average of 1815 hours.

There were slightly more than average rain-days, 185 compared with long term average of 161.

Sea Temperature

The average annual sea temperature was 12.6°C compared to a long term average of 11.2°C despite fairly average summer sea temperatures. The above average figure can be attributed to higher than average temperatures from January to June.
