Energy From Waste Facility

As East Sussex is running out of space in it's landfill sites, we must find another solution to our waste problem.

The first step is to direct as much waste away from landfill as we can, this is done through:

  • Reducing the amount we use so there is less to throw away
  • Reusing things, or mending them, so there is less waste in the long term
  • Recycling and Composting, so that the materials can be made into something new

However, we still produce a huge amount of residual waste (things which cannot be recycled or composted).  This has all previously gone to landfill.  However, we are now diverting some of it to an Energy Recovery Facility, in Kent.
Allington Energy From Waste Facility

Allington Energy Recovery Facility

At Allington, our waste is used to generate energy.  This is beneficial as not only does it safely dispose of residual waste, but it also generates energy.

Generating energy from waste, instead of landfilling it, is more environmentally sound than using virgin materials, such as coal, oil or natural gas.

Please be aware that an Energy Recovery / Energy from Waste Facility is a more desirable solution than landfilling waste.  All emissions from such facilities are extensively filtered to remove pollutants.
