Reduce and Reuse

Kerby - Reduce Reuse
Kerby - Reduce Reuse

Although recycling is extremely important, it is much more effective to reduce and reuse.

By reducing and reusing what you would throw away, you produce less waste overall and are using fewer resources, which is better for the environment.

Landfill solutions, in order of effectiveness

The order of effective waste management is follows:

1st Option - Reduce

This is where you produce less waste overall

2nd Option - Reuse

This is using an item again, it could be for the same or for a different purpose.

3rd Option - Recycle / Compost

Recycling is where an item is broken down and made into another item, composting is where garden or food waste is broken down and made into compost.

4th Option - Energy from waste

This is where rubbish is burnt in a special facility so that energy is produced.  This energy is fed into the National Grid as electricity.

5th Option - Landfill

A landfill site is essentially a big hole in the ground where rubbish goes.  The rubbish here is not used for anything useful and takes thousands of years to decay.
