Kerby with Paper
Paper
You can put these types of paper in your recycling box:
- Comics
- Newspapers
- Magazines
- Junk mail
- Computer paper
- Writing paper
All of the paper which we collect for recycling is made into newspapers!
Kerby with Can
Tins and cans
You can put food and drink tins and cans in your recycling box.
Tins and cans are made of steel or aluminium. Steel cans will stick to a magnet, an aluminium can will not. When they go for recycling the steel and aluminium cans are separated with giant magnets powered by electricity.
The tins and cans will be made into all sorts of metal items.
Kerby with Jar
Glass bottles and jars
You can put all colours of glass bottles and jars in your recycling box. The recycling crew separate the different colours out in the recycling van.
All of the glass bottles and jars are made back into glass bottles and jars at the recycling plant.
You cannot put toughened kitchen glass (Pyrex) in the recycling box as it is special glass which was originally invented to go into space. It has special ingredients in it to make it really strong, the recycling plant does not want these ingredients in their glass.
Kerby with T shirt
Clothes and shoes
Good quality clothes and shoes can go in your recycling box. Make sure they are clean and put them in a carrier bag to keep them clean and dry.
The clothes and shoes go to other countries where people cannot afford to buy new ones.
