Meet The Composting Bin Family

Herby and Sammie
Herby and Sammie
Hello composting friends!  I'm Herby and I'm a green wheelie bin, this is my pal Sammie the green sack.  You can put all sorts of green waste from the garden in us - but only stuff which was once growing, we won't take a green lawn mower even though it is green and is used in the garden!

The nice chaps in the big orange dustcarts come and empty us and take all of the green garden waste to a place where they have massive compost heaps.  The people there have special processes to make the green garden waste into great compost in only 14 weeks!
Charles
Charles
Hello home composters!  I'm Charles and I'm a home composter, my composter buddies and I live in gardens and people can put all sorts of garden trimmings in us which turns into compost over a few months.  The best mix of things to put in us includes grass cuttings and small twigs and cuttings to help it all get broken down more quickly.

Composters like me don't have a base, this means worms from the ground can move in - sometimes I can feel them tickling my insides, but I don't mind as they help turn the cuttings into compost more quickly!

I'm hungry, feed me!  I'm Connie and I'm a green cone.  I'm always hungry for your leftover food and that's all I'll eat, none of that yukky stuff that grows in the garden!  All of the food waste that you put in me gets digested, so there is nearly nothing left!  To help you out I always bring along a little carrying box so you can easily bring your food waste to me!

An interesting thing about me is that my bottom half is buried underground, so you'll need to dig a hole if you want me in your garden!
