Hello there! I'm Kerby!
My name is Kerby and I’m a recycling box. I’m always hungry for your recyclable materials. There are lots of things you can put in me. I bet you read comics or magazines. After you have read them they can be put into me and they will get recycled, possibly into another comic or magazine.
Of course, whilst you are reading I expect you have something to drink. Well, whether the drink comes in a can, a glass bottle or a plastic bottle, once you have finished the drink you can rinse out the container and put that into me as well.
What about your electric toys? Do you get through a lot of batteries? What do you do with them once they’ve used up all of their power? You can put them into me as well.
I can also take your old clothes and shoes. If you’ve grown out of a pair of shoes or got a hole in your jumper don’t throw them away. You can put them in me.
When you put any of these items in me they get taken to a big building where they get sorted into their different materials. They then get taken away to be recycled into new things.
Did you know that plastic bottles are often recycled into fleeces? So that favourite top of yours could once have been some drinks bottles. It takes about 20 bottles to make one fleece.
