Eastbourne Borough Council wants to put money back into the neighbourhoods who are recycling the most in the town. £3,000 has been put aside to be shared between the six top recycling communities in Eastbourne.

The six areas within the town that recycle the most per household from November 2009 to February 2010 will have £500 spent on their local areas.  Any resident from the area can have their say on where they feel the money would be best spent to improve their neighbourhood.

Eastbourne Borough Council saves money the more waste is recycled compared to being landfilled. Every tonne of waste sent to landfill is taxed £40, which will increase to £65 by 2013.  Because of this the Council want to thank those areas which are diverting the most from landfill by giving some of those savings back.
