The council's Environmental Health service receives many complaints about problems with neighbour noise. Common problems include:
loud music, television or radio
noisy parties
DIY
shouting, heavy footsteps or door slamming
barking dogs
Talking and Mediation
Before contacting the council we always suggest you talk to your neighbours first to try to resolve any problems. If taking a direct approach does not work, or you do not feel able to approach your neighbour, you may want to consider mediation.
Mediation will involve an independent third party working with both parties to reach an agreement or compromise. Contact details for Mediation+ are below. The service is free and totally confidential.

Before You Contact Us
Please read our Noise Advice Pack before you contact the council. You can download the pack in this section.
The pack gives detailed practical advice about noise nuisance problems and how to resolve them. It explains the circumstances where the Council will be able to help you, and what to do before contacting us.
The pack also has a leaflet with tips on reducing household noise and how to avoid creating noise nuisance yourself.
Help from the Council
If you have not been able to resolve the problem with your neighbour, then you can contact Environmental Health at the council for help.
Before you contact us, try to be sure of the exact address where the noise is occurring.
If it is a regular problem, please keep a Noise Record Sheet with evidence of the times when the problems occur. The record sheet is available to download in our Noise Advice Pack.
