The council investigates complaints about noise from commercial premises, including pubs and clubs.
We will offer advice on preventing noise, but if this is not followed we have powers to serve noise abatement notices.
If these are not complied with, we can prosecute.
Guidance from Environmental Health for licensees and applicants for licences on how to avoid public nuisance is available to download below.
The council is responsible for issuing alcohol and entertainment premises licences, and residents and businesses in the vicinity of the premises have the right to make representations about applications for a new licence or variations to a licence.
You have the right to object to licence applications and to request a review of an existing licence. You can submit your representation online using our online form.
Joint Action to Reduce Anti-social Behaviour
The council is working to reduce anti-social behaviour, together with Sussex Police, as part of the Eastbourne Crime Reduction Partnership.
The council and the Police have introduced a Street Drinking Order to ban the drinking of alcohol in public places over a large area of the town stretching from the seafront, through the town centre and up into Old Town.
There are a wide range of other initiatives to reduce public disorder, including joint Police and Environmental Health inspections of licensed premises, the Nightwatch scheme, and the introduction of a standard Code of Conduct for licensees.
The council works with licensees through our Licensing Team, and the Eastbourne Business Crime Group Nightwatch scheme to ensure that Eastbourne has licensed venues which are safe and well managed.
A robust enforcement strategy will be undertaken by the Licensing Team and other partners, including the Police and Trading Standards, to ensure that patrons and premises conduct themselves appropriately.
