Noise Control

Noise Annoys

Many people are affected by noise nuisance at some point. We receive many complaints every year about noise problems.

The council's Environmental Health service investigates complaints about noise. We deal with a range of noise issues including:

  • Domestic noise, such as DIY, parties and barking dogs
  • Loud music
  • Noise from pubs and clubs
  • Noise from industrial and building sites

We do not have any powers to deal with aircraft, road or railway noise. Complaints about aircraft noise are dealt with by the Department for Transport (DfT) - telephone 0207 944 5494 or go to their website.

This section explains what powers the council has to deal with noise problems, and what actions you can take yourself.

To find out more about our powers and responsibilities when dealing with noise problems, download our Noise Advice Pack - see Related Pages.
