Contaminated Land

Find out about contaminated land and download our strategy document.

The council is responsible for dealing with issues surrounding contaminated land. We have a legal duty to carry out inspections to identify contaminated land in Eastbourne.

Inspections can involve:

  • collecting documentary or other information

  • visual site inspections

  • limited sampling and intrusive investigation of the land, for example by exploratory excavations

We try to identify areas where contaminated land is most likely to be found and concentrate resources on detailed inspections of these areas.

Contaminated Land Strategy

Our strategy for inspecting and dealing with contaminated land is available to download below.

Further information is available from the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) and Environmental Protection UK - see Other Websites.
