Environmental Health will investigate reports about smell problems. Advice on control measures will be given to the persons responsible.
If this advice is ignored and there is sufficient evidence of a nuisance, a legal notice will be served requiring abatement of the problem. If this is not complied with a prosecution may be taken.

If you smell gas
turn the gas supply off at the meter
call the free 24 hour Gas Emergency line - 0800 111 999
open doors and windows to get rid of the gas
check appliances - cookers, fires etc. for unlit gas, or if the pilot light has gone out
keep people away from the affected area
