Smoky conditions and poorly ventilated buildings can badly affect people's health. Modern building materials, furnishings, cleaning chemicals and decorating products bring even more contaminants to the indoor environment.
Most people spend around 90% of their time indoors, at home and at work. While health & safety regulations apply in the workplace, little attention is given to the quality of the air inside people's own homes, when compared with the public concern about the health effects of outdoor air pollutants.
You can find out more about indoor air quality on the National Society for Clean Air and Environmental Protection (NSCA) website.
