Bonfires

Advice about the law on bonfires and the alternatives, with leaflet to download.

Eastbourne Borough Council discourages the burning of household and garden waste because bonfires are anti-social and cause pollution.

Although there are no byelaws prohibiting bonfires in Eastbourne, smoke may be classed as a statutory nuisance under the Environmental Protection Act 1990.

The council's Environmental Health service will investigate problems with neighbours' bonfires.
