Air Quality

Sussex Air

Air is a combination of gases which are vital to life, so good air quality is essential for human health. Poor air quality can also harm animals and plant life.

Common air pollutants include:

  • ozone

  • carbon monoxide

  • lead

  • nitrogen dioxide

  • sulphur dioxide

  • fine particulate matter or PM10 (particles in the air below 10 mm aerodynamic diameter which can particularly affect people with breathing problems)

In Eastbourne we monitor fine particulate matter continuously, sulphur dioxide on a daily average basis and nitrogen dioxide on a monthly average basis.

In this section, you can find out where to get the latest air quality readings for Eastbourne plus further advice on pollution alerts and how to calculate the environmental impact of your road travel.
