The regeneration of the town centre is a key priority for the Council and is a cross party ambition.
A recent study for Planning Policy confirmed that Eastbourne is in need of new retail space to satisfy the needs of the surrounding community.
The study showed that the town centre can support shopping space which is twice the size of the exisitng Arndale Centre.
It is important that the space is properly planned with the supporting infrastructure. This is to be done through a new and up-to-date Masterplan for the town centre.
The Council has selected planning consultants David Lock Associates to produce a Town Centre Area Action Plan.
It is expected that the initial regeneration ideas will be shared with the public in 2010.
