The Manor House (the former Towner Art Gallery), is a Grade II Listed Building, built by the Reverend Henry Lushington most probably in the 1740s. The house, which was sold to the Council in 1922, became the Towner Art Gallery in 1923.
In 2006, the Council sold the property and planning permission and listed building consent were subsequently granted in 2007 and 2008, for the proposed conversion of the former gallery, into eight and eleven self-contained flats respectively.
A Planning Brief for the site was adopted in December 2002 which identifies the planning constraints associated with the building and its parkland setting and looks at possible alternative uses for the property.
